Exerienced Falls Prevention Practitioners in NHS, Social Care and Health and Extended Care settings.


Description

This resource will enable Falls Prevention Team members and advisors to cascade their knowledge and skills and to support staff working with older people who are at risk of falling across Health and Social Care settings.

The Training Resource explores the theory and practice of Falls Prevention strategies in line with the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) Guidelines and Recommendations.


Learning Outcomes

On completion of a training event using this resource, students will have:

  • Identified why falls are a problem and explained some of the implications for care givers
  • Distinguished between the different types of falls, understood risk factors and how these might affect individual service users
  • Described an area of work and illustrated how they would ensure a safe environment
  • Justified why it is important to use risk assessments
  • Proposed an intervention for an individual service user
  • Described the changes needed to help reduce risk in the current working environment


The learning outcomes for students attending a learning event using this resource are linked to National Occupational Standards for the core units of NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care:
