Description
This workshop introduces participants to a person-centred approach to understanding and meeting the needs of people with dementia who are affected by the misuse of alcohol.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, participants will have met learning outcome 1.1; 1.4; 1.6 and, 2.1 of the Knowledge Set for Dementia. Participants will have:
- Explored the theory of person-centred care in dementia services
- Examined the use of systems that support a person-centred approach to caring for people with dementia
- Discussed management implications of the value base of person-centred care
- Identified issues of recruitment that identify a care-worker who is person-centred

- The Person Centred Approach to working with people with dementia who misuse alcohol
- The facts and myths associated with alcohol misuse and older people
- Clinical features and variations of presentation around dementia and alcohol
- How changes in memory may be affected by the type of dementia and the misuse of alcohol
- Rights, risks, capacity and choices
- The importance of supporting the individual through person-centred working, access to services and an holistic approach
